Removing the tour pack

Removing the tour pack
I would like to find a rack and passenger backrest so I can lose the tour pack on my old (88) electraglide. As you probably know there is an ugly metal plate under the tour pack, at least on the older bikes. I have thought about getting my welder out and trying to fab somthing, then getting it chromed. But, there's every reason to believe that it will exceed the redneck limit in appearance.

a 3 channel rack of a 79 tourglide will bolt straight onto an 88 glide
you can then use the qd brackets that amf used back in the 70's to reattach your top box
only grief you will have is that you will need to attach the number plate somehow
photos to do all of the above in a previous thread - end result is a hell of a lot better than what the factory did

Ugly plate? It's beautiful, like all functional things are! My tourpak is held on with bolts through it's floor, plus a twist-lock electrical connector, which takes a total of a couple of minutes to remove. However the resourceful chaps in here have other solutions available. This post has a qd solution, read from post #9 on.
