Default Help with true dual installation

I've got a 92 Heritage that I am putting true dual exhaust on and I've got everything lined up and ready to drill the left side of the frame for the muffler support bracket but I can't get the shift linkage to clear the rear head pipe no matter what I try. Anybody run into this before? I'm not going to go any further until I get this figured out.

You have to use a bent shifter linkage.
Looks kinda like a check mark.
Short end goes toward the rear.

I got mine from Samson. About $80 if I remember right.
