Best gasket kit for 93 fxr..

Default Best gasket kit for 93 fxr..

Just picked up a 93 fxr.need to tear it down to fix a few leaks and what to install new cam,and new valve stem seals.what do you all think is the best sealing gasket set for a evo.I am looking at the cometic set or james.Just trying to find out what you all use and have had good luck with.Thanks

I've used both


cant really go wrong with either, although I prefer cometic head gaskets. those 3layer MLS's are *beefy*


whatcha doin for a cam?

Like Jasper said go for whatever kit has the MLS head gasket. I use Cometec cause I like there kit packages better.

cometic or cyco.. def use the steel base gaskets on that evo and the MLS head gaskets ...

yea leaning towards the cometic set.not sure on the cam yet.have been thinking the ev27.ran that in my last evo and it seems pretty good.want more power,but has to be reliable.nothing crazy

As I know surfaces has to be polished if you use the cometic gasket. Is that correct?

They recommend that you dont have a rough surface but "polished" is a relative term. I hand sanded with 320 grit to be safe.

I just went with a woods W6 cam. It's a tad more aggressive and supposed to be an "updated" EV27. In fact, Andrews actually grinds the cam using woods' specs. I'm using a Cometic gasket kit- I'm impressed with the quality so far. I only got my tappet blocks on today, hopefully cylinders and heads on this weekend.

Zimm, be sure to post some results with that Woods cam please. I am pretty interested to hear what you think of it once you are up and running.

Yea Zimm,let us know about the w6.I just started tearing my bike down last night after work and plan on finishing tear down this weekend.I havent bought my cam yet so very interested in what you think.Did you have a cam in the bike allready or was it stock grind?
