Default 85 fxr rear brake problem

So i have an 85 fxr, My rear brake sucks!!!!! It works ok putting around, when i get on it the peddle goes all the way down and rear brake barley works. I have tried bleeding and bleeding the system over and over!!! I did a rebuild kit on the master cylinder as well. Changed the fluid out also. so now I'm at a stand still, any tricks or something I'm missing that i should try before i go crazy and just spend too much money on a after market kit????

Overhaul the rear caliper, the O ring shrinks and then it acts like its in need of bleeding because it moves in the groove and the pads sit too far off the disc.

Take a deep breath old chap! If your caliper is original it is almost 30 years old and is probably wondering just what this young whippersnapper wants of it! Spanners suggestion will ensure that both your master cylinder and caliper are at their best, that just leaves the brake hose.

If that is still rubber, I suggest replacing it with a braided hose. At this age a rubber hose is becoming a safety hazard IMHO. If you do all that in one go you will only have to bleed the system once, but should find you have a dramatically improved brake!
