Default Seat repairs

On my 1995 Fxstsb the seat was broken and worn out . I took it to my friend at an upholstery shop and had him remove the seat cover so he would have the pattern . Once the cover was off could see the plastic seat pan was broken cracked badly . Decided to try and fix it first tried fiberglass mesh and didn't like the poor adhesion . Then removed the fiberglass and fabricated two pieces of steel from a trunk floor I was replacing made them go from the flat part of front of seat pan and up about ten inches past the ridge to the passenger portion of seat . Once I had shaped it satisfactory used tremclad to keep the tin from rusting . Then clamped it together and drilled a lot of holes to rivet it together with . Once I was ready to assemble my reinforcements I used a bumper repair adhesive generously on both sides of seat pan then riveted it all together . The upholstery shop used marine vinyl to cover the seat and a higher density foam . This is holding up excellently and was done a few years ago . Also as far as protecting paint from bottom of seat pan had a piece of material glued across it for protection .
There are other ideas say for the seat foam I have read some of the seat makers combine gel in their seats I am mainly trying to make passenger seat comfortable for my wife and with new foam it is better .
Has anyone used gel in their seat rebuild and how did it turn out , where did you decide to place the gel ?

I tried the gel one time a long time ago.
Wouldn't do it again.

By all means, use gel in your seat........... if you want to roast your 'rhoids after parking in the sun.
