technology advances
There may be some truth in that, however the plain fact is that a modern battery is giving far more CCA today than a battery 20 years ago of the same dimensions could ever dream of. Everything around us is higher performance than our aging memories, and that is being achieved in ways that require a bit of technological tlc!
1) The starter batteries available now are not the batteries your Dad used .
2) The battery chargers are also now " intelligent " and can do things that our Dads chargers could only dream of . See the latest stuff out there .

A good intelligent battery tender and decent care will keep your AGM battery working fine for up to 10 years. I always Winter my powersport batteries in a heated basement on a battery tender, switching every week or so to a different battery, and have gotten 10 years out of a yuasa that way. A quality battery helps alot too though..avoid the Wal Mart specials.

If mine wasn't in an insulated garage I would be pulling the battery to put on the tender otherwise I just plug it in at the beginning of winter and cleanup the terminals to get ready for the new season. Cleaning your terminals will be part of your maintainance anyway.
