Without a tach? Guestimate? Mine seems to need a bit more idle speed.

Add a tach?
Temporarily clip on a tach?
Use a diagnostic reader?
Take it to a service department?

I just idle it where I like it. Book calls for 1100, but it's like your Yamasuki there. I got it at around 650, sounds cool, runs fine.

Do you have a "dwell tach" for setting the points on a car? Hook it up the same way to your bike's coil and #1 plug wire, and use the tach on it to set your rpm.

If you think it is set too low it probably is.
I always thought mine was set too high till I added a tach.

Borrow one from Autozone? If that's not an option maybe you can ask one of the local indi's. You'll probably find one willing to hook their tach up to it just to make a new relationship. I know I have one around here who seems pretty willing to do stuff like that. Ofcourse, you'll want to start buying some things from him.

I have a tach...and the needle bounces around so much, its almost useless.

When it idles like a Shovelhead...potato poatato....turn it up a tad more.

It still sounds better than a twin cam....but not as good as a Shovelhead....somewhere in the middle.
