I am thinking pick up as modules usually just die and don't restart but you got classic pick up symptoms.

I am really appreciating the ideas and advice. If it is the pickups, would it be visibly noticeable, like cracked or discolored, what should I see to confirm that.

I have a Compufire 20550 single fire ignition in there now, the pickups come with the module, and with that being said should I just stick with that for replacement or go with something different.

Bike quits running then starts OK when cooled........ classic symptom of bad pick up. No, is not obvious by looking. Using a heat gun or hair dryer allows you to trigger the defect without getting stranded and towed. Just do it.

It was the Compufire ignition, new one on the way, old one lasted about three years.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. But to ease my pain while ordering another last night I thought to myself, that's just a little over sixteen cents per day.

Well...after replacing the ignition, I found it was both the ignition and coil, or just the coil all along, and thought I would pass that along.

I just saw this thread for the first time.......I had a similar thread running about an engine just dying. exact same symptoms.

Finally diagnosed it as a bad coil too! Running great now.
