Electrical problem
I bought a used 1991FLT, abouta year ago. It had be done over by the former owner, as in new wiring. I think he re-didthe wiringas an older style FLHthough. It now has the older style fairing also
My problem is as follows: While
riding, all the lights go out, then come back on, then go out, then come on....etc. If I start it up and let it idle, everything is fine. However as soon as I take off the problem starts ( a FANTASTIC one at that while riding at night.) I don't lose all thepower and the bike still runs strong......it's just that the lights keep going on and off ( all of them at once ). Should I be looking for a "SHORT" or should I be uping the Circut breakers to 30 amp from 15 amps??? Any suggestions will be appreciated............J.D.

RE: Electrical problem
If the lights are going out and back on, you should be looking for an "open". A "short" would blow a fuse and they would go out and stay out. You would be able to dignose this much faster and easier with a wiring diagram, as it will allo to to quickly identify where the common point(s) are that could allow this to happen.

RE: Electrical problem
I have had that problem occasionally with my 97 Evo.
I have found that it is due, on my scoot, to contact corrosion in the ignition key switch. I hit the switchwith a little contact cleaner and WD40 and am good to go for several months.
Humidity, rain and the occasional washing causes it.

RE: Electrical problem
check all ground, look behind headlight for grounding of forks to frame..check the battery to ground on frame... do not overlook the possibility that although the ground wires may look good, the actual final wire connection to frame may be broken... if this occurs over bumps remove gas tank and review wires below the tank..melted/broken etc...the ignition switch is comman area also..
