Default fuel line help 1987 flhtc

first off im working on my fathers 1987 flhtc and I removed the fuel tank to clean the engine. well in my haste i didn't look hard enough at where the rear fuel line goes and i cant find any open spots where it might go. the book only shows the rear fuel line but i cant find where it goes. i searched the forums and got nothing. i looked on my 1992 and it dies not have this fuel line on it from what i can see. any help would be appreciated.

If it's anything like my '88, the line coming out of the back of the tank is just a vent. I just run my hose down to the ground in case a full tank expands, the fuel has a place to go. I think that's what it's for, but that's all I do with it. Sometimes I've forgot to hook that hose up, nothing happened.

Fuel lines are on the bottom of the tank and vent lines are on the top of the tank.

I'm not really sure what you mean about rear fuel line.

A picture would help.

Depending on model some bikes, including my 1990 FLHS, have two vent pipes, one for spillages while refuelling, the other for expansion. Both are on top of the tank and go down under the nose of the seat to the ground, as bluharley says. I run mine to the right side, away from the belt, behind the trans.

this is a pic of the rear line. If its a vent on the bottom wouldn't fuel just run out?

That is a rubber hose clipped to a short piece of metal tube. My guess is that tube runs through the tank to inside the filler neck. You may even be able to see the other end of it!
