Bertha's new owner got back to me.
He must have been cranking the starter too long. Dealer shop told him he burnt the starter clutch and "chewed up the starter clutch hub."
I'm going to have to look the hub thing up. Not sure what that is, but dealer is charging $900 to fix it.
I think you can buy a whole new starter and install it yourself for a LOT less than that.
Oh well, I feel bad for him, but she was running and starting beautifully for me when he rode off on her.......
BTW, Bertha had a VERY specific way she liked to be started. Twist the throttle (once) and let off, pull the enrichener, and push the button. Worked EVERY time!
Is that the way you all start your EVO's?

He needs something like this
http://www.jpcycles.com/product/380-594
Remember that ignition relay I talked about?, gonna keep spinning the starter to death when the battery gets just a little low, the DTT ignition does not like to fire if voltage supply to module drops below 9 volts.
Sad part is after $900, the root problem will still be there
.
Should not need a trick to start,
turn on fuel, pull choke, hit start.
He probably should change that petcock too.
