The indestructible evo?
#21
The proof is in the pudding, right? So, just wondering, how many miles are on your evos? Better yet, for those who've had theirs since new or low miles, how long before you had any issues? What repair was needed, etc.? The evo I'm about to buy has 15k miles. Just trying to get an idea on maintenance $$ and life expectancy. Thanx
<edit> Only expense has been regular maintenance, tires, clutch cable and some added bling.New brake shoes for her this winter though I could've got another season out of them.We all know how girls love new shoes

Unfortunaltey I have to report a Evo failed, Stock engine in the White Bike had a lower crank bearing fail @ 38,000, it had 35,000 on it when I purchased it. Don't know the history on the bike but owner switched to Syn3 recently before selling it and I had 1 oil change with Syn3, did that have anything to do with the failure, I doubt it but who knows. Stock engine was babied in my short riding time and upon tear down, the crankpin was flaked at an angle so it was possible the engine had a slightly tweaked rod at purchase and a failure was unpreventable by previous owner yehaw and not a mechanical failure in possible defense of the rock solid Evo
Success story is, filled the cases with an S&S stroker, every mod to match bigger cubes, flogg it (6400 rev limiter) with the boys, run long distance loaded with the wifey and has been solid for 6 years. Ride a large percentage with Twinkies with the Evo sound seperating it in the sea of technology, most comments are towards "damn that bike sounds good what do I need to do to get my bike to sound like that" the Evo section knows the answer to that one!

I hear ya, my occupation keeps a smart a$$ filter on me and rarely disrespect people unless they go out of bounds but deep down I quickly see the cam followers spread apart

My '93 fxdwg has had a very abused life as it only had 5,000 miles on it when I bought her a couple years ago and I had to do a top end ,regrind the valves ,new lifters and replace 85% of the gaskets. She now has 10,000 miles on her and runs decent.I plan on running her as is for few more years and then I'm going to give her a full restoration and also replace the entire drive train due to very pitted castings with a new s&s engine and baker 5 speed.I can't justify buying a new harley as they have to many design defects due to harley trying to save money and speed up the manufacturing process.

Now have approx 60000 bought it in 2007 with 16000. Cam bearings went at 48000 replaced them cam and lifters. Transmission main sprocket went at 52000 but the one that was in there was not steel. No harley part # so I think it had been replaced before with and aftermarket aluminum sprocket. The teeth were as sharp of knives and made the belt squeak really loud and bad. I read where some early evos had problems with the sprocket nut coming loose and tore up the inside splines. All in all I am going for 100000 and I am optimistic about making it without the top end being redone. Weeps alittle at rear base changed rocker box gaskets. But that is it.. I love my evo.
