Default a little air cleaner help please.

Somebody on here helped me find the backing plate on Ebay and it arrived today. THANKS.

Problem is, the air filter I have is smaller on the carb side than the mounting plate.

Should I grind off the excess and call it good? Is it ok to mount the air filter with the rubber seal just smashed against a flat surface, or, should there be a lip on the filter that overhangs the mounting plate?

No. You got it backward. The smaller end goes out. You need a filter element that is not tapered. or a smaller cover for the tapered element.

Oh, My Bad, Sorry. I've never seen one like that. But, you could still use a non tapered element and it should fit just fine.

If your plate is the same size as the big end of your element, this one is probably ment to go the other way.

That looks like the Derby Sucker. It's supposed to accept a Derby Cover as a face plate.

Yep. I have the cover and want to keep using it. I think I may have found the air filter I need.
