Normally, the filter would have a threaded hole in the middle, and the stock a/c cover would bolt on and is the same diameter of the back plate,
in you case, cut it down and call it good.

I was kinda thinking the same thing except I'm not sure I like the idea of not having the lip to go over the backplate like it does on the cover.

If you don't want to cut down the backing plate. I would take backing plate and cover to either an indy or the dealership and find one that you are sure fits.

As for the above picture it is round but what diameter is it?

Man I still think your best bet is to go and put your hands on it rather than hope its what they say on the internet.

So, I found the air filter at the local stealership. I couldn't make it work, so, I took the BIG SUCKER mounting plate, ground off the "ears", and now I can mount the old filter and cover.

Question is, can I just plug the old breather holes with high temp silicone?

drill em out, tap em, and throw some set screws (+red high heat loctite) in the holes.

Or bolts with washers and nylock nuts.
