Default Explain SA&S Super

Hi,

While I've owner a number of bikes, this is my 1st Harley. A 1989 Electra Glide Classic, fantastic bike, most comfortable I have ever owned.

I see the side of the carburetor says "S&S Super" and I can see a module underneath the bat fairing that has "Screamin Eagle" on it.

Can some tell me what these are exactly? My initial guess is aftermarket pipes have been added and the carburetor replaced to match??

peace,
Chuk

The module is likely the ign module and the SE one is an upgrade.

S&S carburettor is a very efficient way of converting dollars into horsepower....it will make the bike faster but swallow gas like a cheap hooker on a friday night at the dockyard.

S&S is an aftermarket H-D high performance outfit that has been around since the 1950s. Screamin Eagle is H-D's in house performance stuff.

As far as the S&S Super, I replaced mine from a stock CV carb. For me this has been a great change. I have a 1991 evo. pretty much stock. bored 10 over, Wisco flat top pistons, 9.5.1, S&S oil pump, Drago's 2/1 exhaust system, putting out 75 hp 85 ft lbs tq. Not sure if this helps you out. I put 2 parts kits P/N 35-0416 over time and then went to the S&S. All I have done to it is re-jet for pipe change. I like the sealed intake much better on the S&S then the CV rubber mount type.

I'm running the same setup on my bike, Screaming Eagle Ignition and S&S Super E.

The S&S carb is a butterfly valve type carb, kinda like 1/4 of a Holley carb. They make good top end power, but tuning the mid range can be problematic. If they work for your bike, they are a great performance carb.

I had a Super G, but ended up going to a 48mm flatslide Mikuni. The slide mounted metering needle makes mid throttle adjustable.

super G would not be good for a 80" evo, super E would be better. super G is for 100" or more. super E on an evo is a nice carb and easy to tune.

I had it on my 140hp 127" Evo. I know a few guys that could never get the mid range right on Super E carbs too.

That's just a tad unkind, old chap! My S&S V107T came with a Super G. It is a touring motor, gives a smoooooth flat torque curve and similar fuel consumption as my c/v did on my 80".

Admittedly my carby is only a few years old and the E here may be much older, but my perception of S&S carbs is that they were commonly installed, especially on shovels way back, by ignoramuses who didn't know owt about carbs, but had to have that air filter!

Chuk makes no mention of having any problems with his - why it may even be running like a top!

That is right I have had no problems with mine, pull the choke hit the start button and push the choke down right after. Found the plugs would load up if you left choke on. but can't be all bad getting 75 hp out of an 80"
