Default New stator bolts?

I am replacing stator in my 1991 FLT. The manual says to not use old torx head bolts and use four new bolts which have thread locker on them. Can I safely use the original four bolts with blue loctite or do I really need to replace the stator bolts with new. Thanks!!

Old bolts, blue loc-tite will do the trick. Just make sure the bolts and holes are really clean and dry.

If the stator came loose it can do a number including locking up motor. Not sure why you would need to reuse bolts but if I had to I would only do it in a real pinch and then use permanent red loctite. Of course if you ever needed to get them out you would put a little heat on them. Just my opinion.

I reused mine twice in the last 119,000 miles. Cleaned up and blue loctite, the last time being at 57,000 miles, 3 years ago.

Maybe the next time I'll get new ones.

Do not use red loc-tite, the heat takes the seal out and you could pull the threads out. Loc-tite does not normally reccomend red loc-tite on 1/4" bolts, especially when they go into aluminum. Go to their web site and look at the reccomended liquid for various applications. They are grade eight bolts that are not torqued down that tight so no stretch at all. The only reason HD wants them replaced is because of the loc-tite patch, You can put a drop of blue and you have the same thing.

Part #2720 @ $.50 each. You are going to the dealer to get a gasket or primary fluid anyway.

Considering the cost, that's probably an area I wouldn't cheap out on unless I had no other choice. The consequences of failure here are way out of proportion to the money saved.

Under no circumstances reuse anything ....replace entire bike immediately to eliminate all chance of failure ...lol. My 84 still has the factory bolts, been reused numerous times...and I would reuse them again tomorrow without a second thought.

Don't get me started on Harley specified replacement of parts. Among other things I'm still running the original primary gasket...No leaks 12 1/2 years later...
( Sorry Op!)
