Default oil pouring out the oil filter

Working on the stepsons 89 fxst,it was his Dads' bike, who has past on.I'm over hauling the bike as a Grad reward. There is alot of oil coming out of the oil filter after I hand cranked the engine. The bike has sat for 5 yrs.I put some oil down the plug hole just in case in was seized, turn over easy.It was suggested that the oil pump was not properly timed. Is this possible and how is it timed properly.

Perhaps the oil filter seal has rotted or shrunk from sitting too long...change the filter and see if it happens again.

Oil coming out of the oil filter? Where? Is there a hole in the oil filter? Try a filter without a hole.

There is no "timing" on a big twin EVO oil pump, so that eliminates that problem. As steted above bad filter, oil line or loose connection somewhere.

Make sure the right filter is installed. If the thread pitch is wrong the filter could spin most of the way on and snug down even thought it is not spun all the way on. It happened to me.
