I have a 1994 FLHS I have modified with a tourglide fairing. She just turned 50000 and the motor is stock (had 19000 when I got her from the second owner) Now that she is pushing a filing cabinet through the wind I dont have the power I need on hills. Going 50mph at about 3000rpm is all she has got. I dont want to completely tear her down doesnt burn oil, good compression still runs like new. Everyone I have talked to says that camming her will give the boost I need I never rev her or beat her in any way so I am looking for low to mid range power. With all that said what do you all suggest for a cam?
Thanks my friends

The EV1 I have was a significant improvement over the stock one. Didn't really have any downside to it at all. It's time to replace your lifters anyway.
What carb are you running? Getting a properly tuned CV or S&S will make a big difference. Also, the right advance curve in the ignition module will make a big difference. I run a Screaming Eagle ignition, but I think you can get the same curve with other modules.
Have you tried downshifting? There's nothing wrong with running 4500 RPM or pulling to 5500. This isn't a twinkie that has all the power down low and is geared for that.

I don't have a rev limiter. I spin mine until the valves float. I have 80K miles on her. The power is just coming on good at 4K. You need to drop down a gear and nail it, Jay. The other suggestions we make will help a lot, but you still won't pull at 3K like a twinkie. The motor just isn't built for that.

At 50,000 miles it wouldnt hurt to freshen up the top end. oversized rings & a cylinder hone. New lifters & an EV-13 cam for power in the lower rpm's. A good CV 40 carb will bring that bike to life as well. Lapp the valves & call it a day.
You would still be close to stock, good fuel mileage with tons of power! My 88 FLHTC is amazing after a top end job. I can go from 0 to 60 as fast as I can shift gears & the bike seems to like 70 to 75 as the sweet spot for highway cruising.
Hatch.
