Default Anyone advise against Ultima 2000i ingnition?

Im looking at putting a Ultima 2000i single fire ignition in and was curios if it was a dependable set up? I couldn't believe that the Crane Hi4 was over double the price...is it worth the money for a non-race bike?

Currently on the 3rd year, module has worked perfect but coil failed within 6 months, ordered a Crane coil and it looked identical with a Crane sticker laying in the box who knows. Friend put the Ultima in the same time as mine and no problems at all with his so seems to be worth the money.

Same as Bagger said, coil that came with it crapped out within a few months and I replaced with a crane coil. Ignition has been good.

50K on mine no problems. We've installed a number of them and only one problem, no advance on rear cylinder. No one had ever heard of that problem before!!!!

I love mine Ultima Nosecone Ignition (it a Dyna 2ki rebadged).

Having said that thew Coils are total chit!...Mine lasted 12 months and then dropped the front cylinder, so i went with a pair of Dyna S Single Fire units.

It is the exact same thing as the Dyna 2ki at half the price. Just rebadged. The ignition is what is in my bike build, but I am using Dyna coils, partly because of hearing the Ultima coils suck.

Good info guys, thanks for the help. I think I'll ebay the unit without the coil and do some more research on the which coil will be more dependable.

Will any coil work?
I see that Crane will and I think that's what I'll go with, but If I stumble onto an accel or S&S will it function properly?

what are the advantages of having two seperate single fire coils over a single fire unit with both coils inside?

Any coil in the proper ohm range will work. Go to www.ultimaproducts.com and click on tech info. You can download the instruction manual on there and it gives the specifics for the coils required. My bike has two separate coils, but I had to move the coil because I am using a 113" motor and I wanted to move it for asthetic reasons. Mine are located on a mount that mounts to my motor mount and holds my ignition switch also. I don't believe there is any advantage of one vs two, but someone may chime in with more info. I have this ignition minus the ultima coil:
