This was my motivation to keep the plastic. Of all my research Iv never heard of one ruining a motor. If a metal one comes apart, there will be shrapnal all over the inside of your case. I inspected mine last night while putting in my ev27 and it looked predestine. Im keeping plastic!

I'm in line to do the ev27 cam upgrade on a 95 evo. I too was planning on installing a steel breather gear, hence why i came to this forum. But after reading the logic on the plastic, I'm opting to keep the plastic. If mine was brand new in 95, and still OE usable at 64k miles, I'd say plastic works fine. Worst case scenario I'll replace the plastic as opposed to spending the extra $ on the steel one. Good thread guys! 👍😎

I had a valve spring break into multiple pieces on my 85 when it was new. one of the pieces fell down an oil passage, got into the breather gear and destroyed it. it was replaced with another plastic breather. I would never run a steel one because of the damage that could be caused from it.

I too just replaced the cam, after 70k the plastic one was in great shape, opted for a new oem ,couldn't justify another C note to the repair.
