Cam Shim Question

I don't have the "tab" washer in mine, either, just a large plain washer. From what I'm gathering by this discussion, '88 and up OEM cams are longer and may not need an additional shim. Aftermarket cams are made to fit all years of Evos, and thus, are shorter and may require shimming in later Evo cases. Is that correct?

Yes....and I have never seen a tabbed cam shim in an Evo but then I haven't pulled a pre-88 Evo Big Twin apart recently.

My 94 had the tabbed washer but the putz who last worked in the cam chest ground off the tabs saying they made noise...I've only once let someone other than me work on my bikes and I'm regretting it two years later....My dealer said the tabbed ones were no longer available and to just use the round one...but that's a dealer
I have a new tabbed washer and am figuring out my cam options with an eye towards doing the job late this season, depends on some knee surgery..
