This ethanol is new to me here in ontario, I thought it was only in the states. Generally I run the mid grade, some secluded stations only have regular and I often thought it was the very low octane that made my bike sound like crap but now it makes scence if its true there's higher concentration of ethanol in the lower grade.
Guy once told me the benefit of having differnt curves to choose from from ignitions such as the dyna or ultima ( basicly the same) was if you hit some crappy gas you just had to change the curve to get rid of the ping. Changed the curve on my ultima today in fact thanks to some suggestions from the evo guys here and wow what a positive change.

My 98, with the SE heads, will ping with 91 on hot days, especially 2-up.
Chevron 94 seems to fix that.
Under 91 is painful, unless I ride easy and it's cool out.

It was definitely hot.Next trip up I plan to add a small container of octane boost to the saddle bag to use at fillups and see if that helps.
I know that Pioneer gas stations used to carry 94 octane but the one in Aylmer Ont was gone.
Thanks for all the tips.

Yes I believe Pioneer has been a victim of the gas wars and has been taken out by the big cartels. As stated above if it is a real problem you can retard the ignition (I believe you have an electronic one) I have had to do this on my last bike that had a crane ign. In it. I am sure if you google Petro Canada you will be able to find one in Aylmer or Hull that has the 94 and if not Ontario is just across the bridge. Gas station in our area of Ontario have been using a mixed blend of up to 10% ethanol on the lower grades, this is my main reason for avoiding them. When I pay for gas I want gas and when I pay for alcohol I want alcohol, don’t use the latter in or on the bike.
Cheers

Dyna 2000 aftermarket ignition ?? Not up with that but suspect your ign. system might be tuned a little hairy for reg. pump gas.?
Check Evoes switch/wires , if still incorporated in the aftermarket system .
Evos should run well on just about anything combusitble.

Cheers
