Yep, it is a lot better to pull the nose cone and look inside and find nothing (good time to put a fresh cam bearing in and check the lifters and lifter blocks), than not to and have a catastrophic failure. I would be on the fence about the oil pump. If you have good pressure and no lifter noise I would let well enough alone, but keep an eye on the tappet screen. Sometimes random pieces of flashing will come off and get caught in the screen, that's why it's there. Hope this helps.
