Default Occasional starter grind?

Hey all

I am getting an occasional starter grind on my 1986 EVO, never at first start up, only on second attempt and I d wait a little (few seconds in case the fly wheel is still spinning. The dealer said they put a new starter in before my purchase in Feb but it is out of warranty. How long to you wait before attempting a re-start?

thanks!

Jesse

If your motor isn't turning your flywheel isn't turning.

Check your starter pinion gear for damaged teeth.

To check the starter pinion gear you pull the outer primary. I could be wrong about what I call the pinion gear. The one I'm talking about is the one that engages the gear on the outside of the clutch hub.
