Default .030 over bore questions

Hey guys,

Got a 99 fatboy and found some .030 screamin eagle pistons, is this an unsafe overbore? I was told that this may be too much, but wanted some peoples opinions that have bored this far, or have any knowledge on this. Want to make sure it is still reliable.

Thanks for your time.

Default RE: .030 over bore questions

I would bore the cylinder to whatever size it needs to be correct, then get the right pistons for that bore. Example, if you only need to bore it .005" to correct any problems then get pistons that are +.005". If you go right to +.030" you can not bore that cylinder again and it will need to be replaced if you have a problem.

The only +.030" SE pistons I see listed are 22768-98, are these the pistons you are asking about? If so, those pistons are designed for use ONLY with SE EVO Performance heads.

The ones I have are 22197-98, they are for use with stock heads. The pistons are 10.2 to 1

I got a good deal on these pistons, and just wanted to make sure that they would work, and not have any issues.

They are Harley pistons and they wouldn't sell them at .030 over if it was a problem. The life taken out of the cylinders with unnecessary overbore far out weights the value of the pistons IMO.

Good luck with the build.
