Return the EVO to Life
Hi, I’m e newbie here, joined the forum last autumn, when I picked up my EVO ride.
I have 8 years experience with japanese bikes before, but always seen a „natural Harley“, my heart trembled and I dreamed that one day the same ride will be mine.
And it happened – last autumn I sold my Kawa Vulcan and started think about other ride. I looked at diferent offers, but there were only some non-binding Harleys in the market (Latvia is a small country at the Baltic sea with a little volume of motorcycle market). But finally I found in the neighboring country my dreams bike – green and black 1996 FLHTCUI. The bike was in poor condition – after a crash – with broken fairing, tourpak, and deformation of gas tank, 65 k miles. But the color scheme was so pretty and the soul of bike was felt throw the broken look. The ride is from Ohio, the prewious owner was woman from the place near Waverly (according on certificate).
I spent all winter time repairing the bike – rebuild the engine’s top end, welded frame, did all plastic repairing and painting works, changed some broken parts and finally in the spring the bike was ready for technical inspection. I pass it without any remarks.
The bike is absolutely fine, I love it, my heart trembled, when I start up the engine, the sound is greatest I heard ever.
I didn’t know anything about the engine types before, but now, reading all threads in evo section, I understood, that my choice was right – I always wanted to have a bike, which is easy to maintain and which has true american bike’s soul. Now I’m happy as penguin

Awesome job! Makes me jealous!
It is fuel injected - right? It's kinda a religious thing (and a matter of personal preference), but down the road if it gives you problems, you may wanna consider switching it to a carb - easily done, all you need is a carb (stock or S&S) with a manifold.
Another thing to watch for in those, are rubber mounts. If it feels wobbly or uneasy in turns sometimes, check that the rear rubber mounts and the front one are not worn out.
