Usually the bike dying is caused by one of two things; no fuel or no spark. Assuming you had fuel we will explore the "No Spark" theory. The most common cause is a loose battery connection, either positive or ground, besure to check all of the battery connection both on the battery and on the frame, and starter. Next is the main fuse or circuit breaker. When checking remember the connection at the wire/connector may be tight but could be corroded so there is extra resistance, so do a voltage drop and resistance tests on all wires and connections. Is your system charging properly and does the battery pass a draw down test?? Lastly is the starter circuit, this includes all the grounds, plus the circuit breaker/fuse that supplies power to it, the ignition switch, kill switch, starter button, solenoid and starter, plus all the wiring in between all of these. If you do this you will find your problem.
P.S. Are the lights on and do they dim when you hit the starter button??

Model and year?
The click is not what caused the bike to quit running.
Whatever caused the bike to quit running (lack of electrical power) is also causing the click.
As miacycles said, you must first be sure the battery is in good condition and fully charged, and then perform a charging system check (after verifying all electrical connections are clean and secure of course).
