Default Front brake caliper spring?

I rebuilt the brake calipers on my 99 softail and now the front brake makes a lot of noise until I apply it so I assume I put it back together wrong. I haven't got my repair manual I ordered yet so can someone give a pic or a description of how that spring thats attached to the outer pad bracket goes on? It's the round single piston caliper.

The spring doesn't just sit in there, it doubles back on itself to put tension on the pad. Having trouble describing what I mean, but if the pad falls out when you take the caliper off, it ain't right.

Its part 102 but it doesn't show how it goes in there. Right now I have the free end going behind the pad that bolts in and is clamped behind that pad. Is that right? I haven't had a chance to ride it.
