Default Speaker problems

My '98 Ultra has developed a strange problem....

I'll have the intercom on, radio on and speakers off so it only plays through the headset. However, my wife has to turn up the volume so she'll be able to hear me when I speak. When she turns up the volume, then the radio plays through the rear speakers even though they are off according to the fairing switch.

Before I start in the shop manual, I figure I would ask here first. Hopefully saving me some troubleshooting time. I'm thinking a problem either exists in the tourpac or fairing?

Anyone else had this problem....

Is the volume control nice and clean or does it pop and jump when increasing or decreasing? A dirty pot can do crazy things to an audio system, some contact cleaner may do the trick if so

Don't don't if this fixed the problem, but at least the problem went away....

One bolt connecting the tourpac to the license place bracket was missing allowing the tourpac to shift about two inches.

Replaced the bolt and the problem went away just like that.....I only hope it stays gone.
