early evos are 'bottom' breathers... later evos are 'head' breathers

also, it's my understanding that the early evos have the superior torrington b138 inner cam bearing, while the later evos have the inferior INA bearing

i think both have inferior harley 'A' lifters which should ideally be swapped for 'B' lifters ....although, i just rebuilt a 96 evo for a buddy of mine that had over 65k on it and both the INA bearing and 'A' lifters were solid

could be more differences, as some others might chime in ... there were some differences in case design, as well, i think....not sure if the problems were with the earlier case designs or the later (weak spot)....anyone?

My 98 Dyna Super glide had stock "B" lifters and the torrington bearing.

Hope this helps.

...this is correct

i believe they went back to Torrington bearing and 'B' lifters in 98 because of the problems

My 90 has a 96 evo in it, so yes, it should fit. I believe 92 was the the year they started with the more robust cases, new oil pump and head breathers.
