Default Bad Miss at Low RPM

Hi All
I just got a 1993 90th anniversary Wide Glide with 9,100 original miles. The bike looks great and has only a few minor issues. The first being a very minor weep from the base gasket on the rear cylinder. The second issue is that the bike seems to have a pretty good miss in the low RPM range. Once you cruise at about 60 in 5th gear it seams to run fine and when you are really getting on it, it does not miss a beat. But when you are lopeing along at about 30-35 it coughs and misses a bit. I know that the bike sat for awhile and the carb probably need gone through. My plan is to just send in and get a killer carb. But is there something else it can be? I have heard that it could be an exhaust valve but I am not sure and I am just looking for your thoughts.

Thanks in Advance,
Phil

Does it spit back when it misses? In which case it could be running lean low down, it could also be running rich due to probs with the accellerator pump but in every case of misfiring with an Evo you should start by changing the plugs....Evos' are really fussy about plugs and they may look fine but can throw up a range of symptoms.

i had the same prob with my last fxr, turned out to be the float valve/needle valve was not seating, it makes the engine run very rich at low revs and suts the plugs up, if you remove the plugs after running at low revs for a while and they are black then thats your problem.

Plugs are ashen looking. it's like the bike is running lean. as far as I know the bike is completely stock and has never been modified.

Does this mean it is probably an intake leak?

Can I assume that this is a fuel delivery issue or intake leak and that it cannot be something mechanical like inside the heads?

I did change the plugs and that is when I noticed that they were ashen. It does seem to spit back some.

Do you get a backfire/pop letting off the throttle? Such as when shifting gears or coming from a 55mph run to a stoplight? That would show an intake leak. Also it can leak thru the rod your butterfly is on. This happened with my Super B. If the rod wobbles any when you pull on it, it's shot. (Rebuild kits are available for this problem).

How many fuel filters are you running? Mine had an extra filter on it (on of the see thru ones) and it affected my fuel delivery. I took it off and the problem was solved.
