Default Early ('84-'95) mufflers on a '96 FLHTC?

Will they fit and if not, why?

Sorry, I'm hoping someone knows the difference. I don't have the time to fully research this.

Thanks in Advance!

Should not be a problem, I have modified 2005 mufflers with 2006 pipes on my 89.

Yeah....Hooker is blowing out their sllip ons on Ebay....$49.99 for a NOS set with turn down tips. Even if I have to cut and weld the mounts and then get 'em ceramic coated, I'll still be $$ ahead. The Hooker gives a deep, throaty (insert jokes here) exhaust note that's pretty unique these days.

Thanks for the reply.....your scoot looks great!! I had a shot at a '89 FLHS back in '91 that I passed on over $500. "Didn't buy it remorse"

The early model mufflers use a flange type connection, kind of like a ball and socket with a compression gasket ... the 95 and later mufflers are slip on. If you change the head pipes and use the early head pipes along with the early model mufflers, no problem .... otherwise you're going to have to make up a way to connect the early mufflers to the late model head pipes ... been there done that ... Good Luck Brother! P.S. The mounts should be the same on all the bagger mufflers. Hope this helps.

The older mufflers have a ridge and the head pipe was flanged. They used a 2 piece clamp to hold the muffler to the head pipe. I'm not sure you'll be able to mate them together.

No, those mufflers will not directly bolt on. Go to J&P and look up '90 FLHTC exhaust and see the difference in the mounting flanges between this year an yours. A little research will save you a ton of money in the future. Might as well start now.

my 01 came with old style mufflers on it with stock head pipes.they will fit but the rear mount bracket is real tight, and they leak at the joint. it is a good thing they are tight fitting because nothing holds the front in, if they pooped out, the muffler would pole vault the bike in the air

Yeah, those will have the flange thingie. And the headpipe that they connect to is unobtainium. My bike has a 08 Twinkie exhaust system, so those $50 mufflers won't work for me either. Too bad, as I would pull the trigger on those otherwise.

It is almost tempting to buy them, cut the flange off, cut a slot in the bottom and see if they'll stay on with my 08 style clamps.
