I can sympathize with your dilemma living in the land of the maple leaf and a couple of hours from the US border it would be amazing to have a speedometer that switched between KPH and MPH.
I have spent hours searching the net with no results unfortunately.
I have another motive for replacing my speedometer...the odometer lcd was on its way out and died the second day I had the bike.
If your tach still works, could you not use that as a reference in a particular gear to get a close guess? Just a until you get things worked out fix. Nevermind, you've already thought of that. Sometimes I'm such a dope.

To date I have stickers stuck on the speedo glass and a gps that gives kph speeds, also a converter scale stuck on my (lovely!) binnacle, but there is no substitute for being able to look at the speedo! I've been doing that for over 20 years on this bike and twice as long on other bikes since I started riding. What I find is that all the extra 'aids' I have added require too much effort!
I should have started making regular continental tours long ago. With more experience I might have got used to converting speeds, but our recent long trips, deliberately using rural roads, mean frequent changes of speed limits and this muddled ole brain needs a bit of help!
