Ran a CV with all of the tricks that was tuned in with a Wego AFR reader system ran flawless and strong for 3 years. Came across an Mikuni 45 cheap and installed it after a rebuild. When tuning it, it's low and mid AFR's were perfect and rich at WOT and just finished the season riding and not messing with it, the comparison I have is the Mikuni gets rpm's alittle quicker and idle is nastier and that is with both carbs set at 13.8 at idle. The CV is slightly slower at roll on because of the diaphram slide and the aftermarket spring was whittled down also but comes on strong when the slide is fully open, both carbs are set at 13.6 in cruise area and I'm almost positive the Mikuni 45 is getting better fuel mileage due it's adjustable accellerator pump jet and the CV was putting alot of fuel in at throttle roll on by the reading on the Wego system and didn't see any way to reduce the amount of fuel put in by the accellerator pump.

The prepped CV was rock solid in all conditons from Ohio cold to Sturgis elevation and ran 2 up-tour packed plus full throttle solo with the boys on the performance side but the Mikuni is just a little nastier and when I dial the full throttle AFR's in, I can't compare all out performance to the CV yet but have no complaints about either carbs

I've run both the Mikuni and the Keihin CV, and, when properly set up they are both great carbs. The CV has the edge in fuel economy, but I think the Mikuni might have a bit better throttle response. I'd be perfectly happy with either carb.

Thank you all for the great information.

After taking in all the information, suggestions and speaking with Dale at Killer MC, I have decided to go with the Killer MC tuned CV carb and will be ordering it this week sometime.

Dale seems very confident in his product, I opt'd for the custom choke mount and idle screw as well.

Regards
Gordo

Red face CV Carb Rebuild

[COLOR="Blue"]I thought I had a CV40 on my 96" SS Evo. cam unknown, rigid Bobber/Chopper. I found Dale Sanders on EBAY at Killer Motorcycle Products, (626) 392-8843, his email address is HFU@roadrunner.com. I packed it up and shipped it off. I was surprised when he contacted me reporting I had a CV-44.
In a weeks time he had completely overhauled it replacing all fasteners polished the throatslide to a mirror finish and after an interview about all the bikes particulars,(this is where you discribe cams, trans, sprockets, riding style, mild to wild, etc. he set it up to fit "my Bike". When I got it back, it was more jewelry than a simple fuel mixer. I was set back by how well it ran, all for way less than a new SS/mikuni, and you'd still have to tune them for your specs. and riding style. There you go.

I would set yours up as follows

Low speed jet #48
Main #190
Needle stock with 1 shim

Or try the Sporty needle.

Hi

I read all post and it got me little confused.
Different carbs are good depends who owns what.

I have a question.
Would it be a performance increase to replace original HD carb on FXSTC 1999 EVO?

Regards
Piotr

I think an S&S will be a bit hotter in response etc and I like 'em, but give me a well tuned stock CV and the extra $$. Pretty damn rock solid once you get used to its tastes in air/fuel mix.
