My new 98 Fatboy - What to watch for?
Hi, I usually spend my time in the touring forum, but it looks like I'll be over here quite a bit from now on.
I just picked up a 98 Fatboy with the evo and 5 speed, only 30,000 miles, great price and in great shape. It's been quite awhile since I had an evo, is there anything I should look out for. Was the 98 Fatboy a decent bike?
Thanks' for reading.

Hey Jazzy Jack, nice ride!
I'm in the same boat and recently purchased a Dyna the same year as yours with the same mileage.
Regarding the EVO motor I asked the same question as you and the good people here were kind enough to make a few suggestions as they have for you as well.
Mine is scheduled to have the inner cam bearing checked and a torrington style bearing installed should it have an INA bearing.
I'm installing a mild bolt in cam while it's open and replacing the plastic breather gear with a metal one.
Btw - great area you live in!

98 fb
Congrats on the new FB.
I stepped up from a 52 Pan to the 98 FB. Elec start, hand clutch, windshield, carefree ridding, wow, what a change. Now have 08 also, both anniversary models. 12 time zones apart. The 98 has 32 k miles & sits in my bros garage most of the year. Since purchase new I (or my bro) have replaced front wheel bearings, fork seals and installed a stronger cam.
On a road trip some years ago bucking a very strong headwind into the windshield across NE it started blowing oil by the check valve and into the air cleaner. Minor fix.
Other than that I get back about once a year for some enjoyable ridding.
Hope you have lots of good rides on yours.
