What if I just put on the entire tripple trees and forks from the donor bike, its a 96 Road King I believe. That would work right?

If I do this I may go ahead and change handlebars and add chrome controls anyways.... These projects have a way of snow balling.

You may find the 96 fork legs will fit your trees, but if the whole set is available that should cover you for every eventuality.

the 96 still has the single piston brakes on them doesnt it? my 95 runs the stock front wheel and discs with a set of 2006 fork legs and calipers, I used a brass bushing in the fork legs to pad them out but some use the 1" axle and just machine down the centre to make it fit the original wheel.

made a huge difference to mine!
