Default rear brake switch

my brake light wouldn't come on using the rear pedal. I replace the switch and it seam to work ok. now it is not working again. wondering if i could have bought a bad switch or if air in the system is causing this problems. what do ya think.

Test the new switch. When the pedal is pushed the pressure completes the circuit. Check the bulb itself. The rear brake light circuit is a very simple circuit, (I HATE WIRING) lol.. Good luck!

Check the wiring behind the light unit.

thanks for your reply. I took both connector loose from switch and jump them with a wire and brake light came on. did this several times. i quess they sold be a defective switch. it is my curse to bear. 20 switches and I will get the one that's bad. i hope they will let me exchange it for another one. thanks

Glad you found the problem. I had a similar situation, not the switch, but the bulb base was corroded Now every bulb base gets dielectric grease. Cheap and somewhat water resistant

Some aftermarket switches are junk. I have had to replace the one on my 87 a few times. The rivets that hold the spade connectors go bad on the HD ones.. Last time I tried a V twin one because it had molded terminals. Didn't last the season. I bought a new Hd one and soldered the connections for good measure.

These guys are right most of the cheaper ones from the catalogs are china junk had a few DOA out of the box and few more that didn't get the summer over , the ones from auto stores are too high pressure to activate on a bike so heads up . I keep a handful around always have broke *** buddies in need .

I'd have the receipt and switch in hand back to the dealer and bad attitude , for the money they want anyway .

I bought this one from Advance Auto Parts, $10.00. It has been in place two months and is working fine. Time will tell I guess if it holds up.
