Check your intake seals for a leak. That would certainly cause a lean condition. Carb spray or a squirt bottle of water directly on the seals as the motor is running. If you idle drops, you found the problem.

Before you replace the Y-pipe, take a look at Fulsac true duals conversion kit. Very affordable and great quality too!!

X2 on the Fulsac, had them on my RK. Sounded better and less heat on the right side too.

I have looked at the Fulsac kit already, trouble is by the time i get it shipped to the UK and pay the import duty its almost the same price as a set of true dual headers!

spent the evening last night going over it, had the Y piece out and checked it over, its fine, compared it to the brand new one i have and the chrome plating thats been done has added to the size of the pipes so i will need to grind the ends down before i fit it, so i fitted the old one back one, new exhaust gaskets as i had them sitting there, then had the intake off and re-seated it all, the rubber seal could do with replacing i think, its starting to look a bit perished but is still sealing fine.

by the time i finished the above it was to late to go for a ride so will have to wait and see if its done anything.

Thanks for the input guys its appreciated.

I bought a set of Fullsacs. They worked fine, but they won't ship to the UK, so I had to get them forwarded via relatives in the States. Cost me a bl**dy fortune and not worth the expense! Unfortunately some US suppliers haven't joined the rest of us in the 21st century yet!

I had a twinkie road king I was blasting down the freeway at night-I was quite suprised to look down and see the pipe glowing red!! There was nothing really wrong with it just a lot of heat out of the rear pipe! (I know twinkies tend to run a bit hotter than Evo's,I just thought it was worth mentioning!)

It really sounds like the bike is running lean and that will have a negative effect on reliability you will burn up pistons if it is to bad it sounds like a main jet or needle if it happens at high speeds with the throttle opened up I know this from burning up pistons of my own

Will check the plugs for colour tonight and then hopefully get a test ride in with someone watching again!
