Default Lifter Deactivators

Riding buddy of mine rides with the Shovel graybeards and they still use a solid lifter setup. He was looking for some information on a lifter deactivator sold by Jireh that looks bigger than a limiter and principle is to remove the travel out of a hyd lifter and make it a solid. Would this setup still oil the topend with the travel removed.
I am not a fan of this as I know how an Evo will grow as Mia mentioned in another lifter thread and has to be noisy but honoring his request as a riding buddy to get some info, so empty the grey matter on me.

The lifters don't oil the top end. Oil through the oil lines does. Most plug the oil passages in the lifter blocks when changing to solids so you don't just waste oil flow.

Maybe I should be clearer, my buddy rides an Evo, no oil lines.

The lifters will still oil the top end, however most EVO cam ramps aren't designed for solid lifter use so it would be hard on the cam and lifters. Most cam builders will advise against it for street use. Hope this helps.

Thanks John, thought about the oil holes and figured out the oil will get thru, I can see where the hyd lifter will "soften" the square lobe hit but my friend is a pioneer and is probaly going to put in the spacers since it will still get oil to the top side.

He may want to try S&S travel limiters instead. There are lifter manufacturers that make "hydro-solid lifters" too.

Why on earth would you do that to a motor designed to run with hydro lifters? If he wants more power just chuck in a cam.....Shovels et al used solid lifters because hydro ones weren't invented when the original H-D V Twin was created......why would you put stone-age parts in an Evo? Y'all gotta stop getting tricky with yer bikes....

Shovels had hydraulic lifters. So did Pans.

Usually converted the Pan and Shovel hydraulics to solids when one or more of the hydraulics collapsed. Cheaper to go all solids than to buy even one hydraulic.

Why would you assume he needs a cam, why would you assume he needs more power, why would you assume walking the path of the majority is the correct path, it is his bike and his decison.
The stone age technogy used by the graybeards Shovels that has been passed on to my riding buddy is still alive today and currently blisters any high dollar bike we come up against and outruns my high tech stroked Evo so I will continue to show respect to graybeard technology, we don't even mess with one of the shovels in fear of embarassment and it runs stone age solid lifters.

Yea John, I have checked out the S&S limiters and the hydro solids, did alot of research on them and appreciate your posts to members here.
