Best Fuel Progammer for my 98 Ultra????
Newb here, just purchased a 1998 Ultra Classic with MM EFI and need advice as to what the best fuel programmer for it would be. It has Adrews EV23 cams, Stage 1 breather kit and Bub slip ons. It had a Terry Components TV on it but it was screwing up. I called them and they couldn't help, didn't even have a schematic for it....??? I removed the mess and now need something that works correctly.
As far I can tell, considering the year model, the Power Commander III USB seems to be the best choice. Any thoughts? Thanks ahead.

Thanks for the input. I ordered the PCIII USB, will be here tomorrow. I will explore the map options tonight. One problem I have is that I don't know if my bike has had the stage 1 flash or not. I will assume it has, considering the amount of work that the previous owner had done. Can anyone suggest a map for my bike with the EV23 cams, stage 1 breather and Bub slip-ons?

Installed PC III USB Today
Bike is running better, but the map from PC says it is for my exhaust, breather and stage 1 ECM, My concern is that I don't have a Stage 1 download (according to the previous owner). Can I make up for this by modifying the map? Any of you PC III USB Guru's out there with some advice? I pulled the number 2 plug after some interstate time and it is clean, no tanning or anything. Probably still lean. What does the Stage 1 download do to the fuel (how much added, when, etc.)??? I can't afford any dyno time right now....plus I don't want to torture the old horse.

I'll be honest, none of us will know the fuel addition of a Stage 2 download, it will be minimal and I believe the rev limiter is raised a little.
It is also difficult to the check the plugs with a PC3 or any individual cell adjusting tuner because the maps are set up for best performance at wide open throttle and squeezed to 14.2-14.4 afr's at low and cruise throttle positon to get mpg's and it's advantage over the carb. A carb has flat afr's and can get a descent plug reading were the PC3 map is high and low afr's.
If you are concerned about being lean and not ready to shell out money for the dyno tuner, change the setting buttons on the outside of the PC3 one line to the rich setting, that will lower your afr's .5 afr and use the butt dyno to check progress, fuel injected bikes can be DIY gauged with detonation in the throttle roll on (45-55 mph) area to ball park a lean condition, if it isn't rattling in this area, your are not lean. Dyno tuners can pinpoint the afr area but like many Indy threads on here, you have some good ones and bad ones.
Your instructions will tell you how to change the buttons on the outside of your PC3 to richen or lean the map.
