Irratic clutch cable to perch = bad spring plate
Hi All,
Just wanted to help the next guy out....
Symptom: Randomly when pulling in the clutch to come to a stop, I could not shift gears as if the clutch lever was not pulled in all the way. When I got the trans in Neutral, I could pull the clutch cable out of the perch about 1/2 an inch. Way out of spec for adjustment. I must have adjusted the cable 4 times and magically it would work ok for a little while. It was really noticeable when the bike was hot.
Cause: Clutch spring plate failed shearing off rivets and inner material to wipe out the other discs. I caught it early enough and saved the clutch basket. Otherwise, grenade!
Correction: New Barnett clutch installed eliminating the spring plate and adding two more clutch discs.
