Default Coffee shop Question BG

It came up in dicussion this morning about using a latter model brake pedal on my 97 EG. It was said the later model pedal is about an inch longer. Objective would be to have a little more leverage to the M/C also is supposed to be easier to get my foot on the pedal when needed. I was not given a yr model or anything to ck on this. I`m wondering if this has been a topic at sometime on the forum or if somebody has done this. Any input is appreicated Thanks WP

I have never noticed a rear brake problem that would be solved by more leverage. I mean, it is pretty easy to lock up the rear brake with a stomp as it is, why would you want more leverage? I suggest fixing what you have first, then see where you're at.

I`m working on the original problems Including a caliper piston I noticed in cleaning has been ground down. It looks like it was run with no pad or somethings against a rotor at sometime in it`s life. My rotor is ok thankfully. Compared it to another rotor. Agreed I`ll fix what I have first. If the was something commonly done I`d try it while I got it all apart. Appreciate it WP

LOL Stomp Thanks that jogged my redneck brain for a description. If I was approaching a traffic situation that I was on the brake and decided I needed to lock it up. I had to literally draw my foot up off the pedal and STOMP it to lock up rear wheel. I have seen Ford trucks that pads were so worn down that the pad fell out of the caliper and the piston was against the rotor. I can`t see it happening on this bike but the piston looks alot the ones I pulled outta the Fords.

Brake pedals on ebay and such are pretty cheap. Kury is about 90-110 from what I looked at. I plan to do alot to the bike once I get it safe and sound. A cheap oem pedal is worth a try before I spend $ on kury stuff. Have a good 1 WP

An alternative cheap 'fix' is a braided hose and after market pads, which will between them improve your rear brake. But as Dr H says, the rear can be locked up easily, especially when solo, so there is no need to 'fix' it. You really don't need a longer pedal, honest!

What you and DR Hess have said is plenty good enough for me. I`m glad I have access to y`all and the information that is provided. I just was not happy with the rear brake performance and searching for any info to help. If y`all had thought it might help Great. I did notice in riding a friends bike 03 RK that his brake felt and performed (was in a large parking lot) a good bit better than mine. He rode mine a few days latter and told me " I think you got something wrong here" That's when I started the threads and looking into this. If this moved the rubber foot pad a little foward (boot clearance) that wouldn`t be a bad thing for me. Least now I won`t be hoping it improves anything More than that. Thank you very much I do appreicate it WP

I installed a used brake pedal off from a 2004 or 2005 RK onto my 1998 Electra Glide. I like it because it is longer and now I have more foot room on the floor board. The end of my boot use to ride under the brake pedal. $10 deal on ebay and direct bolt on.

Anyways, more boot room is a good thing.......

It seems it won`t help in better brake apply but the boot room is a +. I caught one on ebay for 14 bucks +12 shipping. LOL Should be here about the time the piston for the caliper shows up. Between wrong fluid and the piston had to be cocking off to one side I think I can get this rear brake doing like I want. Thank You Sir WP
