Default Thanks Fella`s

I`m working through some things on this O`ll EVO Been reading alot and the one thing was finding neutral. I had ridden and owned a couple of these in years gone by. It maybe me or just this bike that was kicking my butt on this. This EG has been flat grumpy on finding neutral. Well getting the Primary chain adj. right has done as much good as anything for it. I`m kinda proud of myself in reading and remembering alot (least to me) about some of the ins and outs of tinkering on them. Thanks for y`alls help Have a good 1 WP

Well done! We've had a bit on that subject in here of late. Having owned my 1990 bike from new I recently changed the original clutch cable for a Diamondback which has helped me a little, as well as reducing lever effort (I have a beefed up clutch).

I have found servall things that were supposed to have been done that were NOT. I disscounted the primary adj as having been done as well as a clutch adj. also. Well the clutch was dead on but the primary had to much slack. Somebody got in a hurry doing somethings. Thanks again WP

It surprises me that the primary chain being too loosely adjusted made it harder for you to find neutral. Usually they are too tight if they are causing that problem.
So is it still hard to find neutral?

It sure seems to helped. The chain free play was 1 1/2 -1 5/8. hadn't considered the chain being loose as a problem. (what little experience Ive had with HD many years ago) In reading here it became more clear I at least needed ck it. Got the adj. done got on the bike, warmed it up a bit and took off. First stop got neutral on coast down and again on 2nd stop. I`d had never hit neutral 2 times in row yet. Can get it very easily at a complete stop now with a very small throttle blip. Had very rarely been able to get neutral at a stop no matter what I tried. I`m just glad it made an immediate difference. Have a good 1 WP

You might consider going to the automatic primary adjuster.

Installed one in wife's FXEF and it really helped, plus never need to adjust again.

Been reading on an auto adj. Sounds like a good idea. I`m trying to get the ol bike running and performing like I want. My plans are to get it ck`d and serviced as would a 50 k bike not to mention 14 yrs old might need. This fall I`ll tear it down for paint and what ever I find it needs. Have a good 1
