Default Puking oil

I fired the old girl up last night from her winter sleep. Had it down far enough to paint the jugs and freshen up a bit.
Put the batt in, fresh gas, hit the enricher and fired up like winter never happened.
Good girl.

Let it warm for a few seconds. Turned my attention to something else for a minute or so, and when I looked back, it had dumped about a pint of oil on the floor.
Shut it down quick. Stuck my head under the bike and oil was still dripping from the overflow hose.

Where do I even start?

That's a common problem with case breathers. What happens is oil bypasses a check ball in the oil pump and it goes into the crankcase. When started the oil which is not supposed to be there, gets whipped around and come out the vent hose. It might stop doing that after an oil change and a little use. If it doesn't, you 'll have to clean out the hole where the check ball is. Next time you start the bike put a clean pan under the bike to catch the oil ,and pour it back in the motor.,,

Thanks fellas. Searching "oil leak" wasn't cuttin it in the search box, but I found the posts.
I had an 80' superglide and an 88' springer and I don't recall either ever doing it.
I'll try to fire it up again and have a good look. Last thing I wanted to do was fire it up if there was a possibility of the motor starving for oil.

My '88 FLHTC does the same thing, but only after long times of storage. I put a pan under it the first start up of the season. Just havn't bothered fixing it because its only a once a year problem. It the check ball in the oil pump.

My FLHT used to do this. I fixed the problem. Ball valve seat is worn out, You need to take the oil pump off the engine, take it apart. Get a new ball or two and a piece of rod. One of the ***** has to be welded onto the rod end, use some valve lapping compound and keep turning it just like it goes with cylinder head valves. Wash everything with hot water + soap, dry it. Put back together with new ball in the valve. Should be OK then.
