I have a 85 FXWG and replaced the clutch cable. Manual says to adjust the release lever to 13/16 inch from tower on transmission and adjust cable. Now when I shift gears the linkage to the shifter hangs up when changing gears.

 

Re-adjust it but do it by feel, on a bike of that age the wear and tear adds up and the factory adjustments often don't apply.

Go a little tighter each time until it works.

 

make sure the new cable is not in the way of the shift arm/linkage.
