Default HELP Did I just ruin my inner primary?

I was cleaning it up and popping out the bearings and seals...........A little TOO MUCH dig with a chisel (I KNOW!) getting out the starter bendix seal. Is it ruined or will I still be able to get it to seal up? Also the brass bushing that is still in, should it be changed while the inner is off? I can take more pictures if needed.

Nah mate, she'll be right! A little JB Weld sorts many errors.....I actually think it would be OK as it is because the seal does the work, the alloy just gives it a home but bearing in mind what a big job removing the primary is I would do the JB weld thang.

Bushes don't often give trouble but as you have been a naughty boy with the chisel I think you should replace it by way of a fine or punishment...

The outside of the seal "seals" against the bore...that part looks OK

Yeah, I think you'll be OK. A dab of JB Weld, as mentioned, or some silicone sealant in the hole, or if you're really worried, get a TIG welder to fill the hole and smooth it out, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

And, ahh... A chisel is not a seal removal tool.

Thanks guys! That was my thought too, but just wanted confirmation to be sure. And YEAH, I KNOW, a chisel does not a seal puller make! Lesson learned.

Get you a good brass drift for knocking out seals and races. It will deform before the other metal does.

Harbor frieght, northern tool, both have brass drifts and bearing/seal drivers that are affordable and functional for the home Harley mechanic.
