Help with derby cover leak
#21
Here's what I did, I bought a used outer primary (black wrinkle) on e-bay for $35 bucks, check to make sure the gasket for the primary cover is the same, mine was, and then I popped it on, rolled the motor to check clearence, and its been working for 2 trouble free years now... Will it fit your '93? Don't know, but if its what you want to try find a buggered up one and test fit it and see. I am not sure what all clutch changes were made, if any, between '93 and '96 but I do know it was fun and drives guys nuts at bike events... "hey that can't be a '96, it's got a 5-hole primary" LOL

I also had this problem. Derby cover was warped... when I took it apart was obvious o-ring with rvc everywhere....when I reinstalled I used some heat and hammer to bend the derby cover back best I could and put the o-ring in and paper gasket back in because I wasnt convinced on by straightening skills. No leaks....I ordered a new derby cover but who wants to wait for that to come in..

Once you have it installed and not leaking, next time you have it off take a sharpie and mark the inside as to which way is straight up. I've found that getting them on with the same orientation eliminates much of the leak issues. I think they all warp a little and conform to the primary cover...works for me...

I bought a 1997 HD Classic FLHTC last year. I thought I was going to be smart and add all Live to Ride covers on everything. Well, since I added the three hole derby cover I haven't been able to stop it from leaking. I already bought a second gasket and put gasket sealer on it and it's leaking again. I guess I'll try the double gasket but if I could find an O ring I would put that on first and try it again. Anyone got any links to a new O ring to fit?

Either buy a new cover or clean off the surfaces real good, run a bead of Yammabond in the groove then reset the "O" ring and screw the cover back on. Let is sit for a few hours and it'll be tight as turtle *****.

Your cover is probably warped and never fit correctly from the beginning.
