Default Are there any known issues with the Evo?

I've done a search and browsed as many threads as I can but other than the cam bearing issues with the INA bearing I can't find any known issues with the Evo.

Are there any known issues that persistently affected these motors? Or anything else I should be aware of would be much appreciated.

To be more specific I'm thinking about a Heritage Nostalgia (Special) from 93 --> 96.

Any 94 and up would be my choice due to the new clutch design introduced then. Evos are reliable, easy to upgrade and simple to work on.

Cam bearing, lifters, base gaskets.
That's about it.

93 up is a good choice although I can't really say I've had any problem with my 89, I just like spending money on upgrades

Earlier models had some issues with crankcases cracking around the lifter gear.

No! I have owned my 1990 bike from new and during the first three or four years several things went wrong with it, but once fixed they have never happened again. In other words the likelyhood of past Evo 'problems' causing problems today are very slight, so they are not persistent.

As an example once replaced the INA cam bearing is done and dusted, but there are probably hundreds of thousands of them out there giving reliable service, unaware they are supposed to be a problem! I wouldn't even bother to check a bike unless going into the timing chest for another reason.

If you are buying one today any problems previous owners may have had with it will have been fixed and there is little you should trouble yourself about! And there ain't nuthin' we can't fix on here!

Go out into the big wide world and get yourself one soon!

I've owned three of them and they all had one issue in common. They just seem to keep on running. Current bike-95 Ultra Classic-126,000 miles and still runs smooth as silk. They're just great motors and easy to work on.
