When you get it dynoed come back with the results. We're gearheads here trying to get the most out of our evos.

I just got the the top end off today. Taking it tommorow to suburban motors in Theinsville, WI. Suburbanspeed.com. I will put it back together as soon as I get it all back............my other mods might slow down getting the bike back right away for a tune!

What about a breather setup? Still has stock plastic gear. Heard so much back and forth about the reed vavle. If it isnt going to help I dont want it. Was thinking about roller rockers maybe, I think the only reasonable one are rev-tech for under $200?

If your clutch sprocket isn't worn badley, the Baker 23 tooth compensator sprocket and shorter chain is roughly $275, would yield a final drive 3.42 and a 300 rpm increase @ 65 mph.
I am cheap and found a Rivera complete primary conversion 24/37 tooth (3.34) on Ebay for under $100, the 1999 and up clutch hub assembly also crosses onto the trans shaft and might make it easier to score a deal, hopefully someone that has done the later model clutch hub change over will chime in to confirm the 1999 and up installation.
The downside of the comp pulley change is it puts more load on the starter but at roughly 9.5-1, it isn't going to be noticeable.

I went back with the hd plastic breather gear in mine. I kind of wish I had went with the S&S steel gear but I've heard conflicting stories on it. There's no give to it and it will eat your case up if it's not shimmed right is one argument against it.

I got a 30 tooth front pulley (stock is 32) for 50 bux off of ebay and a Softtail belt (133t) takeoff for another 50 bux (stock is 136T). I haven't installed it yet but will get to it before Spring. I suppose that ideally I should have 134 or 135 teeth but beggars can't be choosers.

Sounds like a good mod for the money. I like to bargain shop for parts too. Always fun trying to get a good deal.

I started a top end on my 88 FLHTC because my head gaskets were pooched. 50,000 miles & it ran good.
This is what I have addressed so far.
Sent my barrels in for bead blasting & check for deck warp. they were both warped a bit. had them honed for a re ring. The mechanic checked the bores & they are a lil out of spec so we ordered over sized rings.
He pulled the valves to lapp the valves & seats. Their o.k. but the springs are weak so new springs are ordered.
With new springs comes more stress on the cam & bearing so now Im pulling the factory bearing out but while Im in there, I might as well throw in an EV-27 cam & a torrington, It just makes sense!
New cam calls for new lifters so out with them & send the blocks in to get honed. Might as well go with adjustable push rods so I don't have to worry about pulling the rocker covers again.
So my $300 in parts just jumped up to around $600 but I know when it goes back together, It's done properly!
Cant wait till spring!!!
Hatch.

With those mods done, you've got LOTS of trouble free miles left in your '88.....
Only 47 days, 11 hours, 12 minutes and 30 seconds left until spring, but who's counting?
