Heindl Cruiser Stand

One really good idea when you are using any kind of device to raise your bike, is to bungy the kick stand in the down and forward position. Then when you let it down it will always go on the stand as long as it leans to the left to start with. I generally raise and lower mine from the right side, and when using the bungee I don't have to worry if the kick stand is locked down or not.

I've seen the plans for the one that Graham mentioned in a couple of places. Here's a link to the one described at nightrider:

This might help. Heindl Engineering Motorcycle Cruiser Pivot Stand Lift - YouTube
1) A bike jack is more useful as it gets the bike higher thus making it easier to work on for us old folk.
2) This thread is 6 years old so I don't think many people care.

Slightly cheaper option that works well for me. I use a couple hockey pucks on the frame rails. Easy to store, easy to use. Still need bike upright for the most part first tho. I have a front wheel chock for that that hold bike upright on it's own until it can be lifted.

The one was changed a little bit to make taller so it could be used to pick up a Yamaha Venture.
It's not for all repairs or service but does have it's uses
